DESNZ's Solar Roadmap release

On 30 June 2025, the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero launched its Solar Roadmap which sets out a bold vision for scaling solar deployment from 18GW at present to 45-47GW by 2030. Crucially, it also recognises the importance of embedding circular economy principles across the solar value chain.

Exploring circular economy practices in Solar PVs

The DICE Network+ team is pleased to see a dedicated action, Action 62, calling on industry to publicise case studies and examples of how the circular economy can apply to the solar value chain. This is a vital step toward building knowledge, sharing best practice, and accelerating innovation.

We also welcome the roadmap’s emphasis on resource recovery, especially the opportunity to recover valuable materials like silicon from end-of-life solar panels. With the millions more panels needed to reach targets, there is a clear need for scalable, high-value recovery solutions.

Are you researching or actively involved in digitally enabled circular innovation in solar PVs? We’d love to hear from you!

The DICE Network+ is exploring this space and welcomes contributions that help expand our reach and understanding. We have funding available for Knowledge Exchange Placements, and we’re keen to support collaborations that connect ECRs with industry and policy partners.

If you have relevant case studies, ongoing projects, or ideas for collaboration, we’d be excited to start a conversation.
